Lecture Synopsis

The aim of Prosthodontic rehabilitation is to provide patients with functional and aesthetic restorations.  New materials and technologies are continually being developed and introduced into the marketplace. The general practitioner is often faced with the difficult task of deciphering between available products and treatment workflows.  Navigating through the maze of materials and clinical workflows can be quite daunting.

This presentation will help the clinician navigate through the choices. A concise review of dental ceramics will be provided with specific attention to the difference between bonding and cementation of ceramic and zirconia-based restorations.  Preparation guidelines, cementation protocols, indications and contraindications for all ceramic restorations in tooth borne and implant supported restorations will be provided.  Incorporated into the presentation will be a review of current cements, impression materials as well as an overview of digital impressions used in a modern prosthodontic practice. The lecture will also review the most recent advances in digital dentistry. The evolution of digital technologies in Dentistry is changing the way clinicians practice. Digital technology is incorporated into many aspects of dentistry including radiography, computer-aided implant dentistry, CAD/CAM manufacturing of restorations, occlusion and TMJ analysis and digital impression making. This presentation will summarize current concepts in digital technologies in prosthodontics and implant surgery, as well as the incorporation of intraoral scanners in both conventional crown and bridgework and implant dentistry.  This presentation will include numerous clinical examples in which the techniques described are demonstrated.  Key insights in achieving predictable and aesthetic outcomes will be outlined as well as the required interdisciplinary communication between the dentist, specialist and laboratory technician.
